Animals have been the muse of artists since the beginning of history. Animal influence in ceramics is very prevalent in contemporary artists’ work. We will create works inspired by animals using hand-built and thrown forms, thrown and altered, and a variety of surface techniques for texture, image and color. We will discuss and experiment with using subtle elements of an animal in a form to communicate an idea or aesthetic on functional forms such as bowls, cups, pitchers, etc. Sculptural techniques for small works will also be shown.
